I am in full agreement with you. It is next to impossible in Ottawa Canada to find instructors who teach Cuban salsa. I have found also that many Cubans adapt to this North American way of dancing.WHY I say!!! Every time I see Cubans dancing I make sure I tell them how wonderful it is to see.
Most schools seem to consider Cuban basic. I am always shocked by this. I personally do not want to do "hair combs" and what I call pony legs and taps etc… Just give me that fast moving wonderful fun and sensual Cuban dance any day.
I am charged by the body movement with it's fast footwork and shoulder shakes, wide arms and am totally comfortable with the man leading by occasionally holding my wrist. Love it! It works.
What then, can us lovers of Cuban Music and dance styles do to promote Cuban style and keep it real?
I go to Montreal and still see a good amount of Cuban dancing but in Ottawa maybe 6 people.
